Learn to Play Guitar
Why is the guitar the second most popular instrument in the United States? It’s versatility, low cost, portability, popular music and ease to get started are all contributors. The School of Music offers Guitar Lessons for ages 5 through retirement age. Our goals for teaching are different than many other schools; we focus on giving the student a well rounded experience that includes Traditional Note Reading, Tablature, Strumming, Melodies, Composition, Improvisation, and much more! Depending upon the Instructor, numerous teaching methods are employed as well as textbooks which include those from Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, Berklee Press and others. We teach all styles of Guitar Music and welcome students from beginner through advanced.
The Modern Guitar as we know it today, traces its origins back to the beginning of the 12 Century AD in Europe. It is thought that the closest cousins of the Guitar would be the Lute and the Oud which were brought to the Iberian Peninsula by the Moors in the 8th Century AD. However in should be noted that numerous Guitar like Instruments date back much earlier, to approximately 3300 years ago.
Guitars come in many shapes and sizes, but the most common varieties are either Acoustic Steel String, Classical, or Electric. Each type has its own history, tone, stylistic considerations, and preferred method of playing. Guitars are typically played with either a pick or the fingers and are used in almost every conceivable style of music across the Globe.

Group guitar lessons are offered once a week and provide:

- Familiarizes students with performing in front of others
